We thought a great way to start would be with some skate maintenance, followed by a little Spring Glow Up.

If you'd rather learn to look after your skates yourself, here are things we recommend doing the following checks.
How to Maintain your Roller Skates
Check your toe stops are not too worn or loose. Get the maximum wear from your toe stops by swapping them over before you buy new ones! (Usually one wears down faster as we have a dominant side).
Make sure your wheels are clean. You will need a skate tool to remove the axle nuts and then wipe the dirt off the bearings using dry kitchen paper. If the wheels are really dirty, you can take the bearings out, using a bearing tool and give them a wash. We don't recommend you use the axle of your roller skate as you can damage the threads.
Check the trucks are not too tight or loose and the cushions are not cracked or squashed. Cushions are cheap to replace and can make your skates feel quite different. You can experiment to find what you prefer.
If laces are really dirty, you can take them out and wash them.
Clean the boot of your roller skate using cleaning wipes for leather or vinyl, or suede cleaner and special brushes to restore the nap.

How to enter:
Just take a before and after photo of your roller skate glow up, and post to your Instagram page. If you are feeling creative and want to make a Reels/TikTok video, make sure the glow up is obvious! Tag @Roller_girl_gang and use the #RollerGlowGang. If your account is private we may not be able to see your entry.
You can also enter by email. Please send two photographs (before/after) to shop@rollergirlgang.co.uk with 'Roller Glow Gang' in the subject line.
Closing date for entries is: Easter Sunday 17th April 2022.
How will the winners be decided?
Once the closing date has passed, our team will choose 6 finalists and share these on our Instagram feed.
The 3 roller skate transformations with the most likes will then go to a final vote on our story, which will be live for 24 hours.
We will announce the overall winners on Sunday 24th April 2022.
