Skaters' Stories Series - Episode 16: Carissa

by Mel Blackwood

Roller Girl Gang's vision is to empower people to roller skate into their most joyful life.

Everyone has a story to tell. We want to learn more about why roller skates are so special to so many people – no matter your age, gender, race, culture or ability. We hope this series inspires you to try roller skating, because roller skating brings us so much joy!

Stories are powerful and even more so when you hear someone's story told directly by them. This project has been very humbling. The very personal things that folks have chosen to share are gifts. You'll see!

Episode 16: Carissa

Today’s conversation is with Carissa (she/her) and it was such a joy to meet such a gorgeous, motivated and determined lady!

Carissa dramatically changed her life during lockdown, achieving huge personal goals, which then gave her the confidence to pursue further life goals. She has a very inspiring story, and in the four months since this interview was recorded, I'm sure her roller skating will have already improved beyond the skater she was when we chatted.

Follow her on Instagram @rissalove1111

Carissa says "I think I underestimated that fact. I thought I'd just get on roller skates and go 'wheee'! No. But what I have done is set myself a bit of a goal. I came across Skate Love Barcelona, so I am hoping to get tickets to go there in September, so I'm going to really discipline myself to get as skilled as I can and enjoy the vibes!"

Did this conversation leave you feeling inspired? Are you skate-curious? What is holding you back? Let us know in the comments.

Support us by liking and sharing the video, buying roller skates and accessories or attending our classes. This helps us raise money that we can re-invest into the skate community.

Our mission is to create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where all skaters can come to shop, learn and share their love of roller skating with others. We strive to be a valuable resource and safe space for the roller skate community and beyond; to contribute to its growth and success.
