What's coming up in February? More dancing!

Where there is dancing, there must be tunes!

On our Spotify channel, we have a number of playlists categorised into various themes and speeds. The one below is also sorted into speed from fastest to slowest bpm (beats per minute). We find these songs a great speed to work on rhythm roller dance, especially while you are getting used to new moves.

Did you know we taught roller dance courses in 2017, weekly roller dance classes in 2018-2019 and again in 2021-2022. Our roller dance class is now monthly on the final Sunday of the month, with a good smattering of dance just added to every Friday Night Social (when you see folks dancing in the middle, just join in!)

Mel is itching to start more regular sessions, but we won't let her just yet (burnout Mel! - no!)

Okay, so this one is really at the end of January...

Come and get your groove on at our monthly workshop. Suitable for awkward movers and non-trained dancers. You just need to be able to skate forwards, stand still and step from side to side. Toe stops can be in or out - just be comfortable!

This weekend our focus is DIPS and then a little combo.

Get some practise in before the Valentine Disco!

Also, so is this!

It's a non-roller skate centered event, but there will be roller skating opportunities! This Saturday at the Corn Exchange, Mel is hosting a mini festival for women who may be thinking about starting their own business, or women who want to grow in their career.

With an amazing goody bag stuffed full of things that far outweigh the price of the ticket, this event will get you off to an amazing start, by helping you create that vital network of women who want to see you succeed.

a rollerskater with pink hair and green t shirt is in a sports hall explaining a move. There is a row of chairs in the background and a basketball net on the wall.

Thank you for the incredible response to our Skate Fundamentals classes - our coach team LOVE supporting you with these vital roller skate skills. Due to their popularity, we strongly suggest you book ahead. Remember to bring a drink and wear comfortable clothes (clothes you are comfortable to fall over in essentially).

We continue with our Skills workshops - these are deliberately intended to push you slightly outside of your comfort zone - though you can still learn at a level that is right for you, as we will ensure we show you progression in the skill we are learning. We love this session as watching skaters develop the confidence to try new skills is always a privilege!

In February we have 'Moving too Fast' aka crossovers and a Skate Fit session.

The third weekend we have guest teachers from the Netherlands Brian and Mariska from Es Quint will be in Leeds teaching their techniques and method. Brian@quadsk8 is a very well known and highly respected teacher, who has been working on his craft for decades. Mariska @kidsrollpower is an NLP master practitioner and roller skater who trains with Brian regularly.

We believe a variety of teachers is important, as you will always find one person or teaching style that really resonates with you. If you can get to this training please do! It also includes tickets to the Valentine Roller Disco at the Corn Exchange.

Our Valentine Roller Disco is in it's 5th year this year! We have managed to celebrate the founding of Roller Girl Gang (founded on 14th February 2018!) every year since 2019. We are truly delighted that the Corn Exchange agreed to our event in the first place, and even more delighted that the skate community understands how generous other traders in the building are to allow us to skate there.

This will be our only roller disco in the Corn Exchange this year, so make sure you get booked in early!

By getting your skate practise indoors now, you'll be ready for a summer of skating outdoors (it surely cannot be as wet as last year!) We have a programme of meet-ups and roll outs coming in the next few months as the weather improves.

You'll need all your own kit to attend these - sorry we cannot take our hire skates to every meet up point! - so book a skate consultation at the RGG Skate Shop. The shop gang will make sure you get the right size and style of skates, can set up payment plans and generally want to see you as happy as possible!

See you soon skaters!
